Site Purpose
This is the site of my manifesto, a series of ideas on addressing various humantiarian issues which aim to make the world as rewarding a place to live in as we can reasonably achieve. We will never achieve perfection, no matter how hard we try, but the aim should be to try to get as near as we can.
The most fundamental struggle in the quest to make the world as inviting and rewarding as possible is that between freedoms and responsibilities. In an ideal world, most of us would like to be able to do what we want, when we want, but in the real world, this is bounded by the responsibility to ensure that we don't behave in ways that are likely to impinge on the freedoms of others. History is crammed full of examples of where powerful people sought self-interest at the expense of everybody else, and that's why the two political extremes- fascism (an extreme form of authoritarianism) and anarchy (a free-for-all) are doomed to failure.
So, a key part of my manifesto revolves around setting up rules and guidelines that promote responsible behaviour (behaving in ways that benefit oneself and/or others, and are unlikely to impinge significantly on others' freedoms) and discourage irresponsible behaviour (behaviour that is likely to impinge significantly on others' freedoms).
As time progresses I will be publishing more articles relating to humanitarian issues and suggesting possible solutions. This website relates to my blog at http://freedom-and-responsibility.blogspot.co.uk/ in which I blog about these sort of issues.
